2017-08-24: Project 300 Update

Quick update:

  • Dials: Just signed off on the mass production of the date and non-date dials. I had to give them some comments but I don’t believe there is any use in going through another round of samples. Hopefully they feel the same and mass production will begin. Either way I will update the status later on.
  • Hands: Finally over the jet lag. I want to pack up these hands in the next week or so and get them on their way to the lume-specialist to get the hands glowing. The new hand cards held well while I was away so it looks like the new packaging will be ready for their first big test. (I had a card of hands on the bench standing upright for the last 5 weeks and all of the hands stayed on ūüėČ
  • Case parts: Bracelets have arrived and more cases have arrived. Following up with the vendor on the remainder of the parts we ordered.
  • QC: I hope to begin QC of the case parts in earnest within the next couple of weeks.

2017-08-17: Paradive Gen 3 Delivery

  • The production watches for the Paradive Gen 3 ready-to-wear are expected to ship to us in the next few days. After receipt we will begin QC.
  • Pre-order Customers: We will email you to request your final selections in the next week or two. We will send out the notifications after we begin QC and we take some product shots of the final version that will be available, the 12-hr GMT aluminum insert version.
  • The rubber straps for the Paradive are in production. In truth the straps were to have been delivered to us in July but at the last minute the vendor emailed us to tell us our order wouldn’t be ready until September. So if you want your Paradive on the a UK MoD style strap there will be no delays in shipment. If you want your watch on the rubber strap shipment may be delayed depending upon when the vendor finally makes delivery of the straps to us.
  • General ordering: This will open in September. If you would like us to email you when ordering opens please add yourself to our mailing list if you haven’t already!

2017-07-31: Project 300 Update

Here is a long overdue update:

  • Non-date dial is ready to be approved for mass production
  • Date dial….I have been¬†reviewing these while I¬†have been in traveling in Taiwan. They look good overall and should be ready for approval for mass production. I will¬†go over them one more time¬†when I get back to the shop.
  • Hands – We have been¬†testing the packaging for the next part¬†of the production process, luminizing. I had hoped to get these off to the vendor in June but a review of a second test batch of hands they did revealed some problems with the packaging that we were providing. The packaging caused a high rate of scrap. We are going back to the type of packaging we used in the first test batch but needed to make improvements to that packaging. The testing of the packaging delayed the shipment of the parts but we should be ready to send the parts out in the next 4-6 weeks.
  • Case parts: Parts have been coming in. The remainder of the batch that is due is expected to ship in September.

I have to apologize in advance if this update raises additional questions I did not anticipate. Normally I have the time to put more thought into these updates but this one was so overdue that it was better to get this posted than to wait until I had more time.

As always thank you for your patience and support!

2017-07-14: Project GMT/Key West Update

  • All orders through Group 4 have been shipped. Group 5 assemblies have been started and are about 50% complete (that means every Group 5 order is 50% complete rather than 50% of the Group is complete. If it was the later we would have shipped those as well with Group 4.)
  • For 1001/1002s assembly is on track.
  • For the 1005/1006s assembly is on track
  • For the 1003/1004s these will prove to be the most difficult of the 3 types due to the high defect rate of the dials. We began QC of the latest batch of the black/gold dials and they look good. Depending on the scrap rate we may need to order 1 more batch of these dials to complete the orders outstanding. We will figure out that¬† in August/September.
  • Preliminary review of the latest batch of case parts looks good. We will dig into the case QC in more detail in August.

Thanks again for everyone’s patience and support of the process.

2017-06-16: Paradive Gen 3 launch

Thanks to support of the Hawkinge we are excited to announce the second offering in the ready-to-wear line, the Paradive Gen 3. It will be available in 6 configurations with a pre-order opening June 16th and shipments expected to begin in September:

1001/1002: Type I non-date or date, 12-hr aluminum insert (Pictures coming soon)

1101/1102: Type I non-date or date, 12-hr GMT molded acrylic insert

1004/1005: Type I non-date or date, Dive aluminum insert

Specifications are available on the pre-order page.

Below are the details of the pre-order. We wanted to get away from pre-orders but a production delay and some required travel in July forced our hand to use a pre-order to make sure we could hit the ground running when we got back. Originally we had expected to be shipping watches by now but instead we expect to begin shipping in September.

Pre-order Terms/Structure:

1. The deposit due today is $794 (pre-order discount of $100). When checking out select the $0.00 shipping option.
2. We will contact you via email in August 2017 for your final selections
3. Your payment when you make your final selection will be $1 + S&H
4. Delivery address will be submitted with your final selection in August.
5. Deposits are refundable at any time (but subject to travel related delays, note below). In addition there is the standard 3 day return privilege after delivery (please see our Policies for restrictions)
6. Shipments are expected to begin in September 2017
7. 75 pre-order slots are available (max 2 slots per person) – Yes there will be many more watches available than 75 ūüėČ we will open general ordering in August/September.

Pre-order FAQ:

*¬†Why can’t I make my final selection today?¬†There will also be a 12-hr GMT aluminum insert version but we won’t have pictures available until August 2017.

*¬†Why are there only 75 slots available?¬† We wanted to be able to ship all of the pre-orders within 6-8 weeks of shipments beginning. In addition we didn’t want to get in too deep right now if the response was strong since we still have commitments to fulfill with the Key West and the 300.

* Why are you collecting nearly the entire price today? This way we can keep the number of slots available lower and complete pre-order shipments more quickly.

* Please note that we will be traveling between July 16th and August 6th so any deposit refund requests during that time may take longer to process than normal.

Impact to Project GMT/300 customers:

If you have followed Mk II for at least the last several years you may be wondering how this new development effected the Plankowners and pre-order customers of the Project GMT/Key West and the Project 300.

  • Plankowners and select backers of the Project GMT/Project 300: We are sensitive to and grateful for the time that they have invested in the projects. We will/have contacted you via email with a special offer as well as an explanation of the timing/pre-order.
  • Funding: This watch was funded primarily using proceeds from the Hawkinge sales and did not use funds that were allocated for the Project GMT and the Project 300.
  • The Paradive Gen 3 is ‚ÄúMade in Japan‚ÄĚ which means that the quality control, assembly and testing were performed in Japan, allowing us to maintain focus on the execution of the Project 300 and the Key West GMT.

Two Paradives in the collection?

  • This is going to be confusing for a couple of months. We are in the process of building a new web site and re-structuring our collections so the fact that there are two versions of the Paradive available and what that means will be much clearer.
  • Status of the Assembled in the USA Paradive: Honestly it’s up in the air at the moment. We are close to completing the Graywater project so that means we will be able to re-open ordering, according to our self-imposed restrictions. The issue here is that the Graywater project took so long to complete because of the case supplier. The vendor has never been able to supply us with enough cases consistently. As you have seen when they do their job right it’s amazing, but unfortunately just as often (about half the time) they get something wrong. So this has resulted in a trickle of available case bodies. The future of this version of the Assembled in the USA Paradive will be decided later this year. Finally it should be noted that pricing hasn’t changed in more than 5 years so if ordering does re-open prices will be going up.

2017-06-02: Project GMT Update

  • We finished the QC of all of the bracelet EPs. A majority of the parts have to go back to for re-work but we have enough parts on hand to finish the pre-orders. In any event we should have enough parts while the re-work is being done on the returns.
  • We will be taking stock today of the assemblies that we have begun so that we can resume deliveries next week. This also means that we will start publishing estimate ship dates next week as well.

Thanks for your patience.
